The Skye Terrier is a breed of dog that is stylish and healthy. This terrier loves attention, is spirited, fiercely loyal and has a purposeful attitude. They bark a lot and may bite a stranger.
The Skye Terrier is believed to be a cross between Celtic Terriers and either the Swedish Vallhund or the Maltese Dogs.
Appearance
Size: 10” is the average height and the weight is between 11 and 17 kg. The length of its body is almost double its height. A short but long body structure makes this breed look very elegant.
Colour: They come in dark or light grey, black, blue and blonde colours.
Coating: The free Skye Terrier puppy’s coat is very different from the coat of the adult terrier. It is double-coated having a soft and short coat underneath and a straight and hard coat on the top. Hair covers the eyes and its forehead and joins the side locks.
They have dark brown eyes, black nose and ears which can be either prick or folded. The Skye Terrier has a drooping tail and feet which are long and huge.
Litter Size
An average litter consists of 3-6 puppies.
Diet
The Skye Terrier should be fed a high-fat diet with plenty of fish, horse meat, poultry and potatoes. Beef and citrus should be avoided.
Preferred Environment
It is active indoors and therefore, very comfortable in an apartment. It likes a daily walk and playing outdoors.
Lifespan
The lifespan of Skye Terriers ranges from 12-15 years.
